Managing Calculation Methods Paige Freeman May 17, 2023 13:44 Updated The Calculation Methods page can be accessed from the contextual menu on the Shipping Charges page, or when creating a new Shipping Charge and selecting Save and Manage Calculation Methods. The Calculation Methods page allows you to define the following calculation methods for a shipping charge: Price: This allows you to charge an optional flat amount per order plus some amount based on the price of the product. The Simple by Price shipping charges are based on the list price alone for the shipping of one unit. Weight: This allows you to charge a flat amount per order in addition to some amount based on the weight of the product. Flat Rate: This allows you to add a specific amount per order as a shipping charge. Price Schedule: This allows you to charge a flat amount or percentage per order with charges based on a pricing range of the product. Weight Schedule: This allows you to charge a flat amount or percentage per order plus some amount based on the weight range of the product. From the Calculations page, you can also perform the following: Edit a calculation method using the corresponding edit pencil in the grid Delete a calculation method using the Delete option in the corresponding contextual menu in the grid Shipping Charges by Price Price-based shipping calculations are calculated at the line level based on the percentage of price and are NOT prorated like the other calculation methods. To define shipping charges by price: From the Calculation Methods page, select +New Charge by Percent. The Add New Charge by Percent page displays, as shown below. Select the effective begin date for the shipping charges defined from the Begin Date drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is on or after the begin date. In Base Ship Amount field, enter the minimum shipping amount that will be charged regardless of product weight per order per ship-via.For example, if an order has three line items, two being shipped via FedEx and one being shipped via UPS, then the Base Ship Amount defined for the FedEx will be split between the two lines, AND the Base Ship Amount for UPS will be applied to the third line. In the Percentage of Price field, enter the percentage of the order total applied to shipping the product per ship-via. In the Amount Charged per Unit Weight field, enter the amount of money charged to every order per unit weight. Select the effective End Date for the shipping charges defined from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is before the End Date. Select Save to save your changes and return to the Calculation Methods page. Shipping Charges by Weight The system determines the weight by adding the total weight of all products in the order and prorates this amount for each line based on the weight of the individual product. To define shipping charges by weight: From the Calculation Methods page, select +New Charge by Weight. The Add New Charge by Weight page displays, as shown below. Select the effective Begin Date for the shipping charges from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is on or after the begin date. In the Base Ship Amount field, enter the minimum shipping amount that will be charged regardless of product weight per order per ship-via.For example, if an order has three line items, two being shipped via FedEx and one being shipped via UPS, then the Base Ship Amount defined for the FedEx will be split between the two lines, AND the Base Ship Amount for UPS will be applied to the third line. In the Amount per Unit Weight field, enter the amount of money charged to every order per unit weight. Select the effective End Date for the shipping charges defined from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is before the End Date. Select Save to save your changes and return to the Calculation Methods page. Shipping Charges by Flat Rate When shipping charges are defined as Flat Rate, the flat shipping amount is distributed across other matching ship-via lines. For example, UPS charges a flat rate of $10.00 and FedEx charges a flat rate of $15.00. If an order has three lines, the first two are being shipped UPS and the third line is being shipped FedEx, then the first two line items would be charged $5.00 each for shipping and the third line would be charged $15.00 for shipping. To define shipping charges by a flat rate: From the Calculation Methods page, select +New Charge by Flat Rate. The Add New Charge by Flat Rate page displays, as shown below. Select the effective Begin Date for the shipping charges from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is on or after the begin date. Select the effective End Date for the shipping charges defined from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is before the End Date. Select Save to save your changes and return to the Calculation Methods page. Shipping Charges by Price Schedule Defining charges by Price Schedule allows the shipping charge to increase/decrease when the price of the product in the order line increases/decreases. You can only have ONE active schedule per Country/Ship-Via combination, either by price or by weight. An active schedule for a Country/Ship-Via combination is composed of all shipping charges with the same effective begin date for the same shipping calculation method (by price or by weight) where the end date is either null or set to a date in the future. For schedule-based pricing, the system sums the total amounts of the lines matching the Ship-Via code and customer, and determines the correct shipping charge for the order from the schedule. The amount is then prorated among the lines based on the line level extended amount multiplied by the quantity. If you change an existing schedule, the changes only affect future orders and uninvoiced/unshipped orders. To define shipping charges by Price Schedule: From the Calculation Methods page, select +New Charge by Price Schedule. The Add Charge by Price Schedule page displays, as shown below. Select the effective Begin Date for the shipping charges from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is on or after the begin date. Select the effective End Date for the shipping charges defined from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is before the End Date. In Base Ship Amount field, enter the minimum shipping amount that will be charged regardless of product weight per order per ship-via.For example, if an order has three line items, two being shipped via FedEx and one being shipped via UPS, thenthe Base Ship Amount defined for the FedEx will be split between the two lines, AND the Base Ship Amount for UPS will be applied to the third line. Select the Fixed Fee or Percentage option from the drop-down. Enter the Low End Amount. This is a lower price limit or level to which the charges are incurred. Enter the High End Amount. This is a higher price limit or level to which the charges are incurred. The amount entered must be greater than the set Low End Amount. Enter the Amount or Percentage. This is the flat weight amount or percentage of the weight that will be calculated for the shipping charge. The field that displays depends on the option selected in the Fixed Fee or Percentage drop-down. If an amount is entered, the shipping charge is simply the amount entered here (plus the Base Ship Amount, if applicable). If a percentage is entered, the shipping charge is calculated by the percentage times the product price times the order line quantity (plus the Base Ship Amount, if applicable). Select Save to save your changes and return to the Calculation Methods page.If a schedule has overlapping values (Low End Amount to High End Amount) with an existing schedule, an error message will display: "Price range defined overlaps with an existing schedule."If an active Weight Schedule already exists, upon selecting Save a validation message will display: "A shipping schedule currently exists for this ship-via and country that calculates shipping by weight. Adding a new charge that calculates shipping by price will inactivate the current shipping schedule. Do you want to continue?" Shipping Charges by Weight Schedule Defining charges by Weight Schedule allows the shipping charge to increase/decrease when the weight of the product in the order line increases/decreases. By defining shipping charges by Weight Schedule, the system calculates the weight of all of the items in an order and the base shipping on the total weight compared to the schedule. The shipping charge by weight is calculated based on the INV_Product.UNIT_WEIGHT (defined on the General Setup screen of the product) multiplied by the order line quantity, and compared with the low/high values defined on this screen. If you change an existing schedule, the changes only affect future orders and un-invoiced/unshipped orders. To define shipping charges by Weight Schedule: From the Calculation Methods page, select +New Charge by Weight Schedule. The Add Charge by Weight Schedule page displays, as shown below. Select the effective Begin Date for the shipping charges from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is on or after the begin date. Select the effective End Date for the shipping charges defined from the drop-down.This shipping method will be charged if the order date is before the End Date. The Fixed Fee or Percentage option defaults to Fixed and cannot be modified. Enter the Low End Weight. This is a lower weight limit or level to which the charges are incurred. The amount entered must be less than the set High End Weight. Enter the High End Weight. This is a higher weight limit or level to which the charges are incurred. The amount entered must be greater than the set Low End Weight. Enter the Amount. This is the flat weight amount that will be calculated for the shipping charge. If an amount is entered, the shipping charge is simply the amount entered here (plus the Base Ship Amount, if applicable). Select Save to save your changes and return to the Calculation Methods page.If a schedule has overlapping values (Low End Amount to High End Amount) with an existing schedule, an error message will display: "Weight range defined overlaps with an existing schedule."If an active Price Schedule already exists, upon selecting Save a validation message will display: "A shipping schedule currently exists for this ship-via and country that calculates shipping by price.
